Today I simply say, “I’m a teacher.” but for thirty years I was quite unable to say what my skill or profession was because I had had sixty jobs in the thirty years before I became a teacher. So I quietly avoided the question. I had a wide variety of jobs and I learned a great deal during those years. Not just about the job, that was the easy part, but also about people. Now and then I even learned something about myself.
One question I never found the answer to is one that is often asked by people stuck in jobs that they don’t particularly like. “Is the grass really greener on the other side of the fence?”
